Most of you most likely heard or saw on fb/instagram that Danny was called as bishop in our Sac 10 spanish ward.
It all started on a friday morning when danny got a call from the stake Secretary wanting to know when both him and I can meet with the stake pres, we told them saturday morning. So that morning we woke up got ready and off to the stake center we went. On our way we were trying to guess why they wanted to talk to us, some thoughts were; a stake calling for danny, giving a talk in stake conf, high council but NEVER did it occur to me bishop! We walked in to be greeted by the stake presidency not just the pres but counselors too. They invited us to sit down and there started the small talk mainly with danny as I was entertaining the kids. They asked about dannys school/work load, plans for jobs etc. Then the s.p started by saying "well we are looking to make some changes in sac 10 and we'd like to call you as bishop" BOOM! It was like being hit by a train, I literally chuckled because I didnt believe it but then I saw they were serious, I glanced at danny to see his eyes starting to water and without hesitation (maybe alittle) he said of course. Then it was 45min of information/responsibility overload but they gave GREAT counsel to us as a young family/couple. We left the church still not believing what had just happened, danny as bishop then that makes me bishops wife, ahhhhh! Kind of scary.
It was announced the next day (sunday) that there would be changes in the bishopric so for a whole week friends/members were playing the guessing game.
Sunday 18th. We had told only family and invited them to come. Dannys parents, wendy & her family, jennifer, uncles and my dad (who surprised me saturday morning) all were there.
Once people saw our family most of them knew. so the s.p got up and took care of business he then asks to hear testimonies from old bishop, counselors (who stayed the same) me then danny. Lets just say it was an emotional,very spiritual and humbling day. One thing I appreciated that our s.p did was he took some time to explain the process of calling a bishop, how they refer names but the 1st presidency has to approve it. He also counseled our ward to treat and respect danny as bishop, that its no longer "Danny, hno. Bair" but Obispo Bair. I really did appreciate that because with danny being a "younger" bishop I think it will take time for some of the older members to get used to it.
During the 2nd hour they did the ordaining/setting apart. It was neat to see Dannys dad ordain him as a high priest. After all the blessings the s.p said we normally don't do this but I feel like we need to give one more blessing...... to the bishops wife. I was distracted with my kids that it took me a minute to react. But when I did I started crying, when they asked me my full name I couldn't even spit it out so danny had to tell them. Anyway, my blessing was amazing, longer than the others (: but it addressed all my worries I have as danny serves in this position, while he finishes school and is still a husband and father. In fact most of the blessing was "adressed" to him and his duties as the provider, husband and father. He did bless me with patience and understanding and explained that I will sacrafice a lot but with that will come many blessings. It was so specific on the things we need to do as a couple to help us during this time.
This last week I've come to understand what he meant by patience and understanding. My reality has been sitting alone with 2 young kids on sundays, not seeing him as much during the week, eating dinners alone (if he goes straight to church from work) or being understanding when he has to get up and leave to help a family which ends up taking hours. Im not trying to complain, I'm just getting used to my new reality and I pray everyday for patience, love and understanding. I'm so grateful for inspired leaders who listen and follow the promtings of the spirit. I'm thankful for a Heavenly Father who KNOWS me personally, my needs, worries, weakness and strengths.
I know we will learn a lot and I'm thankful for this opportunity in my life to learn and grow.
Now that I'm "bishops wife" I will be released from being y.w president so I guess ill have to see what my next calling will be (:
