Trying to be Crafty & Home-Ecie

Note, that the key word of my title is TRYING.  Being crafty is not a natural talent for me by all means, it's more of a learned talent.  For my baby shower back in December my amiga Savani (who has a natural talent for sewing) gave me a car seat cover and it has been so nice having it.  Anyway, as we went to and from Dr's appointments we would get random compliments on the cover and I started to notice that these type of covers are not very common here in CA like it is in UT, where you see them everywhere Here in CA people do it the Hispanic way by putting a hot fleece blanket with animal print over the car seat. So Danny got the bright idea of me learning how to make them and eventually start selling them to a baby store in Davis, where we have a hook up.  But for right now, I have made them as gifts.  I also started to make flowers for Elia's headbands that I have of different colors with the extra material from the covers. Here are some pictures of the covers and flowers

I made this one for my cousin in ARG who just had a baby
Aunt Gail helped with this one for Danny's Professor's wife

Single mom for 1 week

I had my first experience of being a "single mom" for a week the last week of June.  Danny had a school field trip for 2 weeks where they traveled to So. CA and learned about/sampled the soil in different areas, yes, Ph.d students still go on field trips....but he LOVED it!  Well during those 2 weeks I spent 1 week here in CA alone with the baby then decided to fly out to Utah for a week and a half.  It was my first time being completely alone with the baby, it was comforting to have family next door because at nights is when  I'd freak myself out the most, so to help that we had walky talky's on at night a our windows open just in case I needed anything I could yell and my Uncles would hear.  Being alone with the baby was an adjustment but manageable, not too different from a normal day.  The only difference was Danny wasn't there to take her so I could go to my tues/thurs zumba class (for my "me" time) or to walk her around our yard once he got home so I could make dinner.  But the hardest day for me was Sunday, getting the baby and myself ready alone and sitting through our meetings alone made it more sad then anything.  I was able to travel to UT to spend time with my family and be at Noelani's 1st birthday.  We flew out on July 4th- and it was my first time flying with the baby, I was nervous at first but everything turned out good.  Elia was calm and observant on the plane, when we got off, people around complemented me on how well she behaved. Once we got to UT it was a week of family fun, Elia and Lani played together, we went swimming at lani's party, went out to eat with high school friends, it was all soo fun.  We miss our family but it's good to be home and back to a routine and of course we are happy to be back with Danny- he missed Elia like crazy.
